          CUB SCOUT PACK 806 HAPPENINGS

The new year is in full swing and there is plenty going on with Pack 806. We just had our January Pack Meeting that included award presentations, announcements and a huge balloon volleyball tournament. February promises to be full of excitement. We will have our annual Cub Scout Winter Festival at Camp Agawam [Feb 4], Scout Sunday [Feb 12] and out Blue & Gold Banquet [Feb 29]. The theme for this year's Blue & Gold Banquet is the Civil War. Religious awards for completion of the God & Family class will be provided on Scout Sunday.

The date for our 2nd Annual "Big Kids" Pinewood Derby was set for March 31st. See a Cub Scout or the Scout Section of the Church Website [http://www.firstumcec.org/scouts] for more information.

If you are interested in joining Cub Scouts or helping with our program, please contact Joe Tweddell, Pack Committee Chair at pack806@firstumcec.org.

          BOY SCOUT TROOP 806 NEWS

The difference between a dream and a goal is a plan.

With the start of a new calendar year many folks make New Year’s Resolutions, and Scouts are no different. At their first meeting of the new year, each Troop member was encouraged to come up with 3 personal goals for the year (things that they would like to achieve in Scouting in 2012). They were also encouraged to come up with at least one goal for the Troop and to begin developing a plan to meet these goals. These plans will be used throughout the year for Scoutmaster conferences, program planning, and to help keep the boys and the Troop “on purpose”.

One of the Troop’s goals for the year is to establish an asset management system for all Troop equipment. The boys have been working on an inventory of existing equipment, getting rid of old equipment that is no longer useable, developing a list of maintenance items that need to be taken care of, and building a list of equipment needs. They have also been generating ideas for fundraisers that could help raise the money needed to fully outfit the Troop with this gear. If you are interested in helping with a Troop fundraiser, donating a piece of equipment that you no longer use but is still in good working order, or in buying a piece of equipment for the Troop, please contact Committee Chairman Gary Fox, Scoutmaster Doug Smith, or another member of the Troop Committee.
